MoI members visit the US Virgin Islands

Dr. Simron Jit Singh and Dr. Kumaraswamy Ponnambalam, members of the MoI, visited the US Virgin Islands on the invitation of Senator Allison DeGazon, as external observers to understand and provide recommendations on the state of agriculture and food security challenges in the territory. The 5-day visit (2 - 6 December 2019) included interactions with a number of small-medium-and-large farmers on St. Croix and St. Thomas, with select civil society organizations and initiatives, and with several government officials at the Virgin Islands Department of Agriculture (DoA), the Virgin Islands Energy Office, the US Department of Agriculture (USDA), and the Department of Planning and Natural Resources (DPNR). A visit and interaction with the University of the Virgin Islands’ agriculture programs were also organized, along with a tour of the experimental farms.
